Fantastic! We (2A & 2C) stayed for a long weekend recently. The staff were fantastic in communicating with us in the lead up to ask if we wanted any additional supplies such as bbq food, wine, cheese platters or breakfast hampers, as well as to ask what our required bedding configuration was. When we arrived everything was ready, and the staff had kindly left our kids their own breakfast bags with cereal, juice, fruit and colouring in packs. We really enjoyed ourselves, so peaceful and quiet, yet wineries and other things to do just down the road. Will be back! 4fromMelbourne (Trip Advisor – June, 2019)

wine of the month

We are now showcasing two wines from local winemaker, Chris Bendle, created under his own boutique label of DCB Wines.

With a focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, members will have the opportunity to taste wines from his fifth vintage including the 2018 Single Vineyard Chardonnay and 2018 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir – both using grapes sourced from the Lone Star Creek vineyard.

Both wines are available by the glass and bottle.

New menu & new dining concept launches thursday, february 13

We are delighted to be presenting a new food experience for Members, your family and friends to enjoy when dining with us in The Members’ Lounge & Bar from Thursday, February 13. Our new Head Chef, Brian Elliott, joined us in November, 2019 and in that time he has been observing, finessing, cooking and trialling new dishes, immersing himself within his team and from today, you will be able to enjoy his sensational food. 

Members will be able to select from salads, pizzas, burgers and Po and more substantial dishes from 11am until 4pm.  For those looking for something quick post golf, our expanded sandwich menu and quick bites are available all day from 11am until 6pm.

Friday, February 14 will see the introduction of our new Dinner Menu that will operate on Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6pm with last orders at 8.45pm. The new menu will feature dishes from our all-day menu complemented by a selection of dishes that will only be available in the evening.

Your favourite dishes haven’t disappeared and will be complemented by a selection of taste sensations including Crocque Monsieur, Po Boys, Jambalaya, freshly shucked oysters, duck liver parfait, twice cooked pork belly and for those wanting something more substantial, we cannot choose between the double-cut pork chop or the dry aged black Angus porterhouse for dinner.  For the sweet tooths, the orange scented creme brulee and dark chocolate marquise have our tastebuds salivating; and the house-made ice cream sounds perfect for the warmer evenings we are enjoying.

brian’s food philosophy

Brian’s passion is presenting dishes that showcase the best available seasonal produce, that has been grown by food producers he knows personally and, where possible, is locally sourced. Provenance is very important – Brian wants to know Mr Murphy – the Gippsland farmer that grows his green beans, where his oysters that will be shucked to order are sourced from, and the cheesemaker who will be supplying their beautiful produce for you to enjoy.

His desire to provide the freshest dishes for your enjoyment sees a new approach in our kitchen – we are making our own pizza dough and buns, we are pickling, curing and aging our meats – dishes including our dim sims and spring rolls that were previously brought in are now being made in-house whilst ice-cream is being made daily.

With a background in French cuisine, and a strong passion for Creole food, you will see some of these influences within the new menu; and Brian will also apply his own classically trained style to some of your favourites.

To enable us to deliver the best dining experience for you Brian, and his team, are creating dishes that can be prepared faster, are lighter in style and are presented in a refined and elegant way.

Join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. There will be Easter themed activities to enjoy, everyone’s favourite – hot cross buns, plus a very special appearance from the Easter Bunny. Each child will also receive an Easter themed goody bag to take home.

Guests can enjoy live entertainment whilst dining in The Members’ Lounge during Last Sunday of the month between 12.30pm – 4.30pm.

The Ministry of Chocolate is a family-owned and run business producing high quality chocolate within 10 minutes of Yering Gorge Cottages. From humble beginnings at Farmer’s Markets across Melbourne, husband-and-wife team Drew and Karin Maddison found it increasingly difficult to produce their wares at home with two young boys wanting to taste test EVERYTHING so they took the leap and opened a large-scale kitchen.

We are excited that our guests will be able to enjoy these delicious taste sensations including their milk chocolate bar with honeycomb and the always popular freckles to the mini bar from late December, 2019.  




Throughout Daylight Saving, guests dining with us on Friday evenings will enjoy complimentary live entertainment in The Members’ Lounge. Each Friday evening, we will also showcase our special ‘Street Food’ inspir

ed taste of the day; and matched beverage of the day.

To celebrate the arrival of Spring, we have launched our first ‘Seasonal Mini Bar Special’ with the addition of Dominique Portet Fontaine Rose to our mini bar experience for guests to purchase during their stay.

Showcasing Yarra Valley neighbour – Dominique Portet – the Fontaine Rose is the perfect wine for late summery afternoons spent lazing on your private deck as you take in the natural beauty of the surrounding private nature reserve or watch a spectacular dusk sunset after a day of exploring the Yarra Valley.

The Dominique Portet Fontaine Rose joins a selection of Yarra Valley artisan producers featured within our mini bar offer including wines from Coombe Yarra Valley, beers from Hargreaves Hill and The Public Brewery, cider from Napoleone and chocolates from Kennedy & Wilson.

Keeping true to our philosopy of promoting local, we are delighted to now feature Hargreaves Hill Pale Ale in our Mini-Bar. 

A true phoenix from the ashes tale: Hargreaves Hill is the Victorian craft brewing scene’s great survivor. When bush fires tore across the state on Black Saturday in 2009 this brewery in Steels Creek was destroyed along with most houses in the region. The following weeks saw an outpouring of support for Hargreaves Hill from the craft beer community. And, just six months later, a new brewery was re-established in Lilydale, with a larger brew length, greater process control and improved bottling facilities. 




Yering Gorge Cottages is opening the door to the bounty of local wineries, brewers and food producers on their doorstep. Continuing to enhance the accommodation and destination experience we are providing, guests can now enjoy a selection of some of the Yarra Valley’s best producers straight from their mini bar including:

Coombe Farm Blanc de Blanc, Pinot Gris and Shiraz – home of the iconic soprano, Dame Nellie Melba, their Estate Grown, boutique wines deserve equal recognition for their style and elegance.

Payten & Jones VV Series Pinot Noir – describing their wines as ‘having a bit of personality and a little different to the polished norm’, Payton & Jones are leading the next generation of producers to emerge from their beloved Yarra Valley.

Feather Weight Craft Light – The Public Breweryonly one of three craft light beers produced in Victoria; and the only one made in the Yarra Valley. The team at The Public Brewery developed Feather Weight to challenge age old perceptions that light beer isn’t cool or worth drinking.  

The new mini bar offer complements the upgrades to our continental breakfast basket undertaken earlier in the year including a selection of teas from Yarra Valley Tea and coffee sourced from local roastery – Silva Coffee.

Join us for dinner on Wednesday and Friday night’s.  Relax by the fireplace as you enjoy our family friendly environment before retiring to your cottage for the evening. Guests can charge back to their cottage when dining in The Members’ Lounge. Bookings are not required for groups of less than 10 guests.




weekend breakfast: The members’ lounge

Yering Gorge Cottage guests receive a complimentary continental breakfast hamper to enjoy in their cottage.

If you feel like a heartier breakfast on weekends, and don’t want to cook up one yourself with our cooked breakfast hamper upgrade, you can let us do the cooking whilst you sit back and enjoy the view. Breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday’s between 7am until 11am. Guests can charge back to their cottage when dining in The Members’ Lounge.
