Discover our Favourites

We (2A & 2C) stayed for a long weekend recently. The staff were fantastic in communicating with us in the lead up to ask if we wanted any additional supplies such as bbq food, wine, cheese platters or breakfast hampers, as well as to ask what our required bedding configuration was. When we arrived everything was ready, and the staff had kindly left our kids their own breakfast bags with cereal, juice, fruit and colouring in packs. We really enjoyed ourselves, so peaceful and quiet, yet wineries and other things to do just down the road. Will be back! – 4fromMelbourne (Trip Advisor – June, 2019)

Discover our Favourites

We would like to share with you some of our favourite Yarra Valley places to explore, iconic experiences that we have grown up with that will thrill you as they have us and we always love sharing some hidden delights that only the locals know about – all of which can be discovered when staying with us at Yering Gorge Cottages.

global ballooning australia

We rise before the sun almost every day of the year because we believe there’s something magical about experiencing the world from the sky. Nothing excites us more than bringing out a child-like joy in adults and a sense of wonderment in children. It’s all part of a journey that’s finished by 9am, but leaves a lifelong impression.

It’s a wonderful thing, to be able to give someone the experience of a lifetime over the Yarra Valley. At Global Ballooning Australia, we’ve shared a sunrise with over 90,000 people in 25 balloons over as many years – and it never gets old. We’re proud of our safety record, and we care deeply about our guests’ experience, but for us, it’s more about the people we meet along the way and the pristine natural playground we call our office.

Eleonore’s Restaurant is the fine dining room at Chateau Yering Hotel.  With its emphasis on regional produce, matched with local and international wine from our historic blue stone cellar, the hotel and restaurant has been recognised as a destinational venue. Eleonore’s Restaurant has been named in honour of Eleonore de Castella who was the mother of Paul de Castella who built Chateau Yering in 1854.  Eleonore was a sophisticated hostess who instilled in her son an appreciation of gracious living, refined cuisine and quality wines.   Our two Italian Head Chefs produces a menu that reflects the seasons.

Puffing Billy

Step back in time at Australia’s favourite steam train, Puffing Billy!

Puffing Billy is one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world and operates every day of the year, except Christmas Day, thanks to the tireless efforts of their volunteers. The excitement begins from the moment you arrive at the station with the sight of the historic locomotives, the smell of the steam and the sound of the train’s whistle.

The Railway was built in 1900 to serve the local communities that lived in the hills, carrying anything from passengers to timber, livestock, potatoes and plants.

Today, Puffing Billy Railway is a major tourist attraction and incites visitors to come and experience a century old tradition. Ride in the open sides carriages as the historic steam trains continue to run on their original mountain track between Belgrave and Gembrook, in the natural surrounds of the magnificent Dandenong Ranges.
